I was looking to learn one of the most effective martial arts so that I could protect myself from the increasing number of violent attacks that seem to be taking place here in Dallas. Jui Jitsu training looked like the best option for me because jiu jitsu is viewed by many to be one of the deadliest martial arts, along with krav maga and muay tai. But as the saying goes, ‘with great power comes great responsibility.’ In terms of Jiu Jitsu training, that meant long hours of literally backbreaking training. The instructor repeatedly asked us to do things that could have seriously harmed ourselves – jumping shoulder-first from a 10 foot height in order to practice breaking falls, for instance. I was always acutely aware of having had to sign a waiver of liability, and yet also acutely comforted by the fact that our instructor had the confidence to push us to such limits of physical and psychological endurance.

Anyway, here are some of the pros and cons of jiu jitsu training in case any of you from the Dallas area are considering taking up jiu jisu.

Pros: Increased strength, increased flexibility, increased confidence, increased self-defense skills.

Jiu jitsu will make you stronger than you’ve ever been, regardless of whether or not you life weights or body build now. Because much of training employs plyometric exercises to build speed, small muscles that don’t get worked by traditional weight training get a serious workout and make you stronger and fitter than you’ve ever been. Your flexibility will also increase as a function of regular exercise and a regular stretching routine; moreover, flexibility is required for the execution of higher-level forms and moves. Increased confidence comes by way of a sense of accomplishment and increased fitness/better body, in addition to its correlation to the new knowledge that you can kick the big guy’s ass.

Cons: Bruises, sprains, commitment.

Learning jiu jitsu isn’t like learning other martial arts; it’s much more physically intense as you will often deal with grappling, throws, and fall-breaking. Stretch marks and bruising from sparring are a generally occurrence, and sprains can happen – part of the steep learning curve. Speaking of the learning curve, it is very steep, but learning jiu jitsu requires a serious commitment – one that will make you willing to endure all the cons I’ve listed in pursuit of the pros.

A point and figure commodity charts is used for technical analysis of securities. Unlike many other investment charts, point and figure commodity charts do not represent a linear representation of time. They instead, show trends in price.

The aim of point and figure commodity charting is to filter out the unimportant price movement and focus on the true direction of the price trend.

Point and figure commodity charts are usually used for a longer-term price movement. Having said that, they can also be used to day trade by clearly identifying the key points of demand and supply. They are also very effective at keeping you on the correct side of the market. Point and figure commodity charts can do a really great job to spot some really good trading opportunities on a trade and trend market. Point and figure commodity charts are close relatives to three-line break, renko and kagi charts, which do not have a fixed time frame. This will make you trade only the important moves of the market; small moves are discarded because of the limited gain potential.

There are two typical ways to plot point and figure commodity charts, using closing prices, or with high/low prices. The most common method in today’s market is high/low prices of a specific period usually daily price. The close (EOD) method was also used until 1947 when A.W. Cohen invented a new system to work with point and figure commodity charts using high/low prices. A.W. Cohen also invented in 1955, the bullish percent indicator BP. A tool to gauge the market breadth of a particular market or index.

Today, Chart craft is Investors Intelligence. Website Investors intelligence was used for the calculation of the BP high/low prices of the day because of the fact he invented the high/low system on point and figure commodity charts. However, it is also possible to calculate the BP with close only prices but the outcome became two different BP charts.

Closing prices are very useful when charting price movement for funds or suchlike where there are no real ways to get the intraday prices for that fund. Nevertheless, we can use the close only prices for every kind of market because the intraday movement of prices can be very confusing. If you take into account that point and figure commodity charting in the last parts of the 19th century and the first parts of the 20th century was used to record price movement of tick charts, the close only price would be one tick. Specifically our last tick for the trading day.

There are a number of reasons why hiring an entertainer for your children. Children Party entertainers kill time and keep the children occupied. A clown can make balloon animals and tell jokes for 45 minutes. A magician can dazzle the kids’ eyes for an hour. This can be a great time to bring the crazy energy level down a little bit, so the screaming and the running around gets a break – and so do the parents!

This can be valuable time for a parent: socialize with the other parents (if they’re there), clean up some of the giant mess that the kids have made, or just sit in the back of the room and enjoy the show as well. With all the running around and planning that you’ve done over the course of planning this party for the children, party entertainers offer some much-needed relaxation for you!

For children, party entertainers mean a time to enjoy some great entertainment. For adults, party entertainers mean a little time to take care of some other things – or eat a sandwich instead of helping the other kids eat. Consider hiring one for your next party, and savor the benefits of the extra time!

Many young people have graduated – or are about to graduate – from a New York school and are finding themselves unready to enter the ‘real world’ of careers, jobs, rent – in short, unready for responsibility. Though many are quick to associate this disposition with immaturity or laziness, it is actually a reflection of maturity insofar as many of these students recognize that they simply don’t know about themselves to commit to responsibility, or else feel they are not confident or self-sufficient enough to be having to work full-time and live completely self-sufficiently for the first, too.

For this reason, many students make the decision to do some traveling in an effort to build confidence, satisfy curiosity, and have plain old fun. But without a job to pay the bills, and with the financial umbilical cord to Mommy and Daddy severed by graduation, what’s a poor student to do? One of the best ways to travel is to work and travel at the same time. Jobs that can be picked up during travel are generally lower-responsibility so that those who take them can develop confidence in working while they take the bold step of getting acclimated to life in an entirely different place. These two activities – working and living abroad – instill confidence not only in one’s ability to succeed in the work environment, but also to succeed in a new place or in a new circumstance – e.g., a foreign country. The result is a transition to grown-up working life that is less jarring, better guided, and more fulfilling.

Speaking of fulfilling, one of the most rewarding experiences across all of life – not just work – is teaching, and teaching English abroad not only pays well but is consummately flexible, allowing teachers to hop from place to place to teach for a few weeks before moving on to the next great city or country. In order to get a piece of the English teaching action, would-be teachers ought to strongly consider getting a TEFL certification, which is a credential recognized worldwide as the mark of a teacher who spent time learning the skills and gaining the knowledge necessary to teach English to speakers of other languages. Luckily for those looking to earn the accreditation of TEFL, New York is full of institutes that cater specifically to students looking to learn to teach English and then teach abroad for an extended period or else travel from place to place, teaching English when necessary to make money.

In sum, teaching English while traveling is an ideal use of time by recent or soon-to-be graduates because it fosters maturity in the workplace, personal maturity, is fulfilling, and underscores cross-cultural similarities through the use of a common language – English – so few things are lost in translation.

After sitting on pins and needles for three months, it was finally decided, we were moving to China. My husband’s company had been hemming and hawing about it for so long, the kids and I had almost given up hope.

The only drawback was, my husband would go first, leaving me behind to handle all the details. Me, who’s never even been outside of my own State! No problem. I could do it…with the help of my friend the Internet. First thing I did was google ‘international moving company’. I found several international moving companies that would move everything we owned, door to Chinese door.

All I needed to do was put in my home state and my destination and each international moving company that I chose gave me free quotes. One thing that I read in my research…shipping everything that you own via the lowest priced carrier can be a big mistake. Check the international moving company’s license and reputation, (BBB, epinions.com), before selecting one to transport all your household goods.

I made my selection according to reputation and arrangements were made for the date the international moving company would come over with their crates and barrels and overseas container to pack up the house.

Phew! But there was still so much to do…so many questions still unanswered! Back to the Internet. I googled international moving company again. I followed links and found expatriate forums where Americans discussed what it’s like living in China from housing to food to medical insurance. That’s what I needed to know. When you have kids, medical insurance is so important! Here’s what it said:

China Health Insurance has extensive experience in providing international health insurance plans to expatriates living in China. As one of Asia ’s largest insurance intermediaries we can offer plans that will provide comprehensive cover for individuals, families, travelers, teachers, and groups.

Perfect. Several plans were listed on the website. All I had to do was choose the one that best suited our needs and the whole family was covered.

I decided to post a question of my own on the forum. My husband is a picky eater so I wanted to find out if Western food was available in Shanghai near the hotel where he was presently staying until we got there. The reply I got was to advise him to get over it! Business in China is often done over a meal and it would be considered an insult if he were to not try Chinese food, even if just a bite of each dish. Another thing I learned is that it is considered bad manners to completely pick your plate clean when eating at someone’s house as it means they didn’t feed you enough. My kids would be totally on board with that!

At last, thanks to international moving company and its wealth of information, our lives are all packed up and we’re ready to be transported to another place and time.

Cleaning up after a house fire might look like a daunting task, but it can be an almost painless experience if you take it step by step.

One of the first things that you need to do is find any food items that have had their seals broken and throw them away, since they may have been contaminated with soot in some way. Any open containers of pet food should also go. You should also go into the bathroom and remove anything there such as toothpaste, cosmetics, and etcetera that have had their seals broken. These items are not safe to use and should be thrown away.

Clearing the air of the home comes next. The air filter on your furnace might need to be changed out and the filter on your air conditioner should also be changed. Open the doors and windows of the home to allow the home to completely air out. Use fans to help with this if there is no wind to do the job for you.

Vacuuming furniture, carpets, and anything else that has collected soot should be the next thing to do. Try to avoid walking on carpet if you can, since this will set the soot particles deeper into the fabric and this logic also applies to vacuum cleaners that brush the carpet as you run them.

If you have house plants, wipe these clean of soot, since these kind of particles can kill them.

Some items in your home will tarnish and etch if they are not cleaned quickly after the soot falls on them. These can include marble, porcelain, stainless steel, formica, and chrome. Wooden surfaces need to be cleaned with wood soap and removing odors with a cleaning chemical that contains an orange smell should help.

Cleaning wallpaper and paint with soot on them can be a tricky business. Call a local paint or wallpaper store for advice on how to clean these, if possible. Try to clean it in an inconspicuous area first. Sometimes trying to clean it will only smear it around and re-painting the wall is the only option. Wallpaper will have to be taken out most of the time, since it will absorb odors when it becomes dirtied with smoke.

Anything that smells like smoke should be cleaned thoroughly. Putting out a few bowls of vinegar around the house will help to absorb some of the odor out of the home. Vacuuming does not typically remove the smoky odor from the home. Most appliances can be wiped off with a vinegar and water solution (ratio of 1 cup vinegar to one gallon of water) to help remove the smell.

If you are planning on doing a mold remediation project by yourself instead of hiring a professional to do it for you, then odds are you are wondering how to go about doing this safely. It is important to take safety into account when you are dealing with mold, considering all the health effects that can be caused by mold. Respiratory infections, aggravation of asthma and emphysema, skin rashes, eye infections, and etcetera are not the only things that can be caused by the existence of mold in your house. Death can also result.

What exactly are you going to need if you are removing mold from your house? Well, this answer depends on just how much mold you need to remove. If you find mold growing on the walls of your home, then simply washing it off with mold killing chemicals may not do the whole job. Taking out the drywall and replacing it is probably the only thing that you can do to completely remove the infection. If it has not seeped down into the drywall and contaminated the entire depth of the board, you may be alright.

Some heavy duty mold killing chemicals will be needed. Shop around and read some product reviews before committing to buying one particular cleaner.

Heavy duty trash bags should be on hand to put any mold contaminated materials into. Try not to touch these contaminated materials to anything else in the home to avoid cross-contamination.

A respirator of some kind should be used when you are dealing with mold remediation of any level. If you are going to be removing drywall or any other building materials from your home, a half or full face mask respirator with a HEPA filter cartridge may be necessary. A full face mask can be bought for around $130. Disposable protective clothing can also be bought and is fairly inexpensive considering the protection you will be provided. Since the shoes seem to only be sold in bulk, consider buying a pair of rubber boots instead and pull the body suit down over it. Breathable gloves should also be bought. If you cannot find them outside of a bulk quantity, consider a rubber glove alternative. Pull the body suit over them and seal with duct tape.

A vacuum with a HEPA filter on it is something you will want to use if you are planning on removing any drywall. Stirring up mold spores is inevitable when you do this, especially if the infection is larger inside the wall that you could see from the outside. These vacuums will collect all the mold spores that have settled onto the floor and anything else that you vacuum with it and not redistribute them into the air.

The names of diseases that are caused by mold typically end in the suffix “mycosis” and while you might not think that such diseases are that dangerous, but think again. These are serious illnesses that can lead to irreparable damage to different organs in your body and can even result in death in some extreme cases. Those at risk to contract them are generally those who have a weakened immune system, small children, the elderly, and anyone whose body is weak, such as a person who is undergoing chemotherapy or is recovering from a recent surgery. Mold contaminated surgical instruments can also transmit these diseases if they are not properly sterilized

Most of the diseases that are caused by mold begin with some flu-like symptoms like coughing, pain in the joints and muscles, fever, and chills. The medications used to treat these conditions can cause the very same symptoms that the disease does and can also end up causing some kidney, liver, skin, and eye damage if their usage is not monitored. Any doctor that prescribes such antifungal medication will probably require frequent lab work to be done on the patient to catch these side effects before they get out of hand.

Aspergillosis is a disease that are caused by molds belonging to the genus of Aspergillus and these molds are typically found not only outdoors, but can also be found indoors, as well. They have been known to produce what are called “aspergilloma” in any pre-existing cavity in the body such as those arising from cancer, cystic fibrosis, tuberculosis, or similar conditions. Aspergilloma often have no symptoms for quite a while, but when they do finally show themselves, they can include coughing up blood, weight loss, fever, and shortness of breath.

Another condition that commonly affects our pets (but can also affect humans) is called Blastomycosis. This disease can cause pneumonia and other kinds of respiratory infections in humans and animals and can spread to the rest of the body. When the mold spores enter the body, they become yeast and since yeast itself is not contagious, you should not worry about your pet giving it to you if they are showing signs of it. The cutaneous form of the disease shows itself as lesions on the skin of the body and if they are left moist and untreated, it can cause much damage to the surrounding bone and tissue.

These are only two of the diseases that can be caused by mold. There are others that are just as serious. If you suspect a mold infestation in your home, perform some do-it-yourself mold tests and have the results determined by a laboratory specializing in mold.

Fill it with goodies that you know they will enjoy. You can even think further outside the box: get your Chinese food-loving friends a set of engraved chopsticks. Or anyone can enjoy a nice picture frame with a message engraved on it.
